CBT Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme

The CBT is expected to contain 120 objective-type questions for 120 marks, with a duration of 120 minutes. Each correct response carries one mark. No negative marking is generally applied unless AAI states otherwise in the post-wise instructions. The question distribution between common subjects and discipline-related topics may vary by post.

Subject-Wise Syllabus

  • English Language: Grammar, vocabulary, sentence correction, synonyms, antonyms, comprehension, cloze test and error detection.
  • General Intelligence and Reasoning: Analogies, coding-decoding, series, syllogism, blood relations, directions, puzzles and logical reasoning.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: Number system, percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, profit and loss, time and work, time-distance and data interpretation.
  • General Awareness: Current affairs, Indian economy, geography, history, polity, science, aviation sector developments and AAI-related awareness.
  • Discipline-Specific Section: Core subjects from the qualifying engineering, management, finance, official language, fire services or other relevant discipline, as applicable to the selected post.

Candidates should build a topic-wise study plan, revise graduation-level concepts, practise previous recruitment papers and attempt timed mock tests. Accuracy is important even where no negative marking applies because selection is based on merit and category-wise cut-offs.
