Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must hold a Master's degree in Science (M.Sc.) or an equivalent degree in relevant subjects such as Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, and Mathematical Sciences.
  • Candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in their Master's degree. Relaxation is applicable as per category norms.
  • Candidates appearing in the final year of their Master's degree are also eligible to apply, subject to meeting the percentage criteria at the time of admission.

Age Limit

  • For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF): Maximum age is 28 years as of the last date of application. Upper age relaxation of up to 5 years is provided for SC/ST, OBC-NCL, PwD, and women candidates.
  • For Lectureship (LS): There is no upper age limit.

Fees

  • General & EWS: ₹1,100
  • OBC-NCL & EWS: ₹550
  • SC/ST/PwD: ₹275
  • Payment can be made online through debit card, credit card, net banking, or UPI.

Selection Process

The selection process for CSIR NET consists of the following stages:

  1. Computer-Based Test (CBT): Candidates must appear for a single-session online examination comprising three parts (Part A, Part B, and Part C) covering general aptitude, subject-specific MCQs, and analytical questions.
  2. Answer Key & Objection Window: After the exam, the NTA releases the provisional answer key. Candidates can challenge any answer within the specified window by paying the objection fee.
  3. Final Result & Certificate: Based on the final answer key and candidate performance, the NTA declares the result. Qualifying candidates are awarded JRF or Lectureship eligibility certificates.
