Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants must possess a degree in law from a university recognised by law in India.
  • Candidates applying as advocates must be practising in courts of civil or criminal jurisdiction on the closing date of the application.
  • Applicants who obtained their law degree from the academic year 2009-10 onward may be required to have cleared the All India Bar Examination, where applicable, to establish eligibility as a practising advocate.
  • Eligible employees working in courts or specified allied departments may apply subject to the service conditions prescribed in the detailed notification.
  • Candidates must have basic knowledge of computer applications.
  • Knowledge of the Gujarati language is required. Applicants who did not study Gujarati at the secondary or higher secondary level may have to qualify the prescribed Gujarati language test.

Age Limit

  • The general upper age limit is 35 years as of the application closing date.
  • The upper age limit is generally 38 years for candidates belonging to SC, ST, Socially and Educationally Backward Classes, EWS and eligible persons with disabilities, subject to the recruitment rules.
  • Employees of courts and allied departments may receive age relaxation based on their length of service, within the maximum limit specified in the notification.
  • Candidates must provide valid certificates to claim reservation or age relaxation.

Fees

  • General-category candidates: ₹2,000, plus applicable bank charges.
  • SC, ST, SEBC, EWS and eligible PwD candidates: ₹1,000, plus applicable bank charges.
  • The fee must be paid through the prescribed online payment facility within the application deadline.
  • Application fees are normally non-refundable. Candidates should confirm their eligibility before making payment.

Selection Process

  1. Preliminary Examination: An objective-type screening examination will assess legal knowledge, general awareness, reasoning and other notified subjects. A Gujarati language test may also apply to candidates who do not hold the required language qualification.
  2. Main Written Examination: Candidates shortlisted from the preliminary stage will appear for descriptive papers covering substantive law, procedural law, judgment writing and language skills.
  3. Viva-Voce Test: Candidates qualifying in the main examination will be called for an interview to evaluate legal understanding, communication ability, suitability, ethics and overall aptitude for judicial service.

Final selection will be based on performance in the stages specified under the recruitment rules, subject to document verification and fulfilment of all eligibility conditions.
