Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- For Class 9 lateral entry, the applicant should be studying in Class 8 during the 2025-26 academic session at a government or government-recognised school.
- For Class 11 lateral entry, the student should be studying in Class 10 during the 2025-26 academic session at a recognised school.
- Final admission to Class 11 will be subject to the candidate passing Class 10 and producing the required marksheet and certificates.
- Applicants must meet the district and school-related eligibility requirements prescribed by NVS. Candidates should ordinarily be studying in, and be bona fide residents of, the district in which the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is located.
- Students should carefully check the detailed prospectus because admission is available only against vacant seats in the relevant JNV.
Age Limit
- Class 9: Candidates should generally have been born between May 1, 2011 and July 31, 2013, including both dates.
- Class 11: Candidates should generally have been born between June 1, 2009 and July 31, 2011, including both dates.
- The prescribed date-of-birth conditions apply to candidates across categories. Applicants must verify the exact age provisions in the official notification before registering.
Fees
- Application fee: No fee.
- Students can complete the online registration without paying an examination charge.
- Expenses incurred for obtaining certificates, photographs or internet services, if any, are not part of the application fee.
Selection Process
- Lateral Entry Selection Test: Registered candidates will appear for the JNVST examination on the notified date. The paper will assess subjects and competencies relevant to the class for which admission is sought.
- Merit List and Result: NVS will prepare the selection list based on test performance, applicable admission norms and the number of vacant seats in the selected school.
- Document Verification and Admission: Shortlisted students must submit original academic, residence, date-of-birth and category certificates. Admission will be confirmed only after verification and completion of prescribed formalities.
Merely appearing in the examination or securing qualifying marks does not guarantee admission. Seat availability and verification of eligibility remain mandatory.
