Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates should hold a master’s degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised university or institution.
  • General and unreserved-category candidates are ordinarily required to secure at least 55% marks in the qualifying postgraduate examination.
  • Candidates belonging to OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, third gender and other eligible reserved categories generally receive relaxation to 50% marks, subject to the official information bulletin.
  • Candidates appearing in the final year of their master’s programme may apply provisionally, provided they satisfy the prescribed conditions within the permitted period.
  • Subject eligibility, four-year bachelor’s degree provisions and PhD-admission rules must be checked in the June 2026 information bulletin.

Age Limit

  • For JRF, the upper age limit is generally 30 years on the cut-off date stated in the notification.
  • Age relaxation is available to eligible reserved categories, women candidates and applicants with specified research or armed-forces experience under UGC rules.
  • There is usually no upper age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility or PhD admission through UGC NET.

  • General-EWS/OBC-NCL: ₹600
  • SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender: ₹325

Selection Process

  1. Computer-Based Test: Candidates appear for Paper I and Paper II in the subject selected during registration. Both papers are conducted in a single examination session.
  2. Answer-Key Review: NTA publishes recorded responses and a provisional answer key. Candidates may challenge disputed questions by paying the prescribed processing fee within the notified deadline.
  3. Final Result and Qualification: The final answer key is prepared after expert review. Results are then declared for JRF, Assistant Professor eligibility and/or PhD admission based on marks, category, subject-wise cut-offs and applicable UGC criteria.

  3. Enter the application number and password or date of birth. Complete the security verification shown on the login page.
  4. Open the candidate dashboard and check the displayed response sheet, answer key, scorecard or qualification status.
  5. If the provisional answer-key objection window is active, select the relevant question, upload supporting documents and pay the challenge fee online.
  6. Submit the challenge and retain the confirmation page. Objections sent through email, post or without the prescribed fee may not be considered.
  7. Download the result and scorecard as a PDF. Verify the candidate’s name, roll number, subject, category, marks, percentile and qualification status.
  8. Keep a printed and digital copy of the scorecard for fellowship processing, university recruitment or PhD admission. Candidates should not rely only on screenshots of the result page.
