The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will conduct the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination 2026 for recruitment to posts such as Lower Division Clerk, Junior Secretariat Assistant and Data Entry Operator in central government departments. Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Applicants must have passed the Class 12 or equivalent examination from a recognised board by the cut-off date specified in the notification.
  • For certain Data Entry Operator posts, candidates may be required to have passed Class 12 in the Science stream with Mathematics as a subject.
  • Candidates appearing in the qualifying examination must possess the required qualification by the prescribed eligibility date.
  • Documentary proof, including the Class 12 marksheet and certificate, will be checked during verification.

Age Limit

  • The usual age requirement for SSC CHSL posts is 18 to 27 years.
  • The exact date for determining age will be mentioned in the SSC CHSL 2026 notification.
  • Upper-age relaxation is generally available to SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, ex-servicemen and other eligible categories under Central Government rules.

SSC CHSL 2026 Exam Pattern and Syllabus

Tier 1

Tier 1 is a computer-based objective examination covering English Language, General Intelligence, Quantitative Aptitude and General Awareness. Based on the prevailing pattern, the paper contains 100 questions carrying 200 marks, with 25 questions from each subject. Candidates are generally given 60 minutes, and 0.50 marks may be deducted for each incorrect answer.

Key subject-wise topics include:

  • English Language: Vocabulary, grammar, sentence correction, synonyms, antonyms, cloze test, active and passive voice, direct and indirect speech, comprehension and error detection.
  • General Intelligence: Analogy, classification, coding-decoding, series, syllogism, blood relations, direction sense, puzzles, non-verbal reasoning and logical analysis.
  • Quantitative Aptitude: Number systems, percentages, ratio and proportion, profit and loss, averages, simple and compound interest, time and work, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry and data interpretation.
  • General Awareness: Current affairs, history, geography, polity, economics, science, culture, sports, awards and important national and international developments.

Tier 2

Tier 2 is conducted in multiple sections and sessions. It generally evaluates mathematical abilities, reasoning and general intelligence, English language, general awareness and computer knowledge. A qualifying skill test or typing test is also held according to the post selected by the candidate.

The computer module may cover hardware, software, operating systems, internet services, networking basics, cybersecurity and office applications. The typing or skill test assesses practical data-entry speed and accuracy. Candidates should check the notification PDF for the final marking scheme, qualifying standards and negative-marking rules.

Selection Process

  1. Tier 1 Computer-Based Examination: Candidates take an objective test covering four core subjects.
  2. Tier 2 Examination and Skill/Typing Test: Shortlisted applicants appear for the advanced computer-based paper and the applicable qualifying test.
  3. Document Verification and Final Selection: Eligibility documents are verified before allocation of posts and departments based on merit and preference.

  5. Select examination-centre preferences and upload the required photograph, signature or live image as instructed.
