Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised university or equivalent institution.
- The degree must include at least one of the following subjects: Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or Zoology.
- Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry or Engineering are also eligible.
- Applicants awaiting their qualifying examination results may be permitted to apply provisionally, subject to the conditions stated in the detailed notification.
- Only candidates who qualify in the Civil Services Preliminary Examination and meet the prescribed IFS cut-off can appear for the Main examination.
Age Limit
- The minimum age is expected to be 21 years.
- The upper age limit is generally 32 years as on the cut-off date specified in the notification.
- Age relaxation is applicable to SC, ST, OBC, persons with benchmark disabilities, ex-servicemen and other eligible categories under Central Government rules.

Fees

Selection Process
The UPSC Indian Forest Service selection process consists of the following stages:
- Civil Services Preliminary Examination: A common objective-type screening examination is conducted for Civil Services and Indian Forest Service applicants. IFS candidates must meet the separate qualifying standard prescribed for the service.
- Indian Forest Service Main Examination: Shortlisted candidates take descriptive written papers covering General English, General Knowledge and optional subjects chosen under the prescribed scheme.
