The November schedule applies to the Indian Forest Service Main Examination. Candidates are first required to clear the Civil Services Preliminary Examination, scheduled earlier in the recruitment cycle, to become eligible for the Main examination.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or institution. The degree should include at least one of the prescribed subjects or belong to one of the specified professional streams:

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least one subject from Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or Zoology.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry or Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Candidates awaiting the qualifying examination result may be permitted to appear provisionally, subject to producing proof of qualification within the prescribed timeline.
  • Applicants must satisfy all educational conditions stated in the detailed notification before submitting the form.

Age Limit

  • The standard age limit is 21 to 32 years as of August 1, 2026.
  • The upper age limit is generally relaxed by five years for SC and ST candidates.
  • OBC candidates may receive an upper-age relaxation of three years.
  • Persons with Benchmark Disabilities and candidates from other eligible categories may claim relaxation under applicable government rules.
  • The date of birth entered in the application must match the candidate’s matriculation or equivalent certificate.

Fees

  • The preliminary application fee is generally ₹100 for candidates who are not exempt.
  • Candidates admitted to the IFS Main examination may be required to pay an additional ₹200 Main examination fee.
  • Female, SC, ST and Persons with Benchmark Disabilities candidates are exempt from paying the examination fee.
  • Payment can be completed through the online options made available on the application portal.

  5. Upload the required photograph, signature, identity document and other files in the specified format and size.
  6. Pay the applicable fee online, unless covered by an exemption, and review every entry before final submission.
  7. Download the confirmation page and retain a copy of the submitted application form and payment receipt.
  8. Qualified candidates should subsequently complete the detailed application requirements for the Main examination within the notified window.
  9. The IFS Main e-admit card is expected to be released online before the examination. Candidates must download it from the UPSC portal, as admit cards are not normally sent by post.
