Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
- Candidates should generally hold an MSc or equivalent degree in the relevant science subject with at least 55% marks.
- A minimum of 50% marks is generally applicable to candidates belonging to SC, ST and eligible PwD categories, subject to the final information bulletin.
- Candidates with an eligible four-year bachelor’s degree may be considered for JRF and PhD admission under the applicable UGC rules. Such candidates may not automatically qualify for appointment as Assistant Professor.
- Candidates appearing in the final year or awaiting the result of the qualifying examination may apply provisionally, provided they complete the degree within the prescribed period.
- The test is normally conducted for Chemical Sciences, Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Physical Sciences.
Age Limit
- For Junior Research Fellowship, the upper age limit is generally 30 years as on the prescribed cut-off date.
- Age relaxation is available for SC, ST, OBC-NCL, PwD, women and other eligible categories in accordance with government and examination rules.
- There is normally no upper age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility or admission to PhD programmes.

The expected examination fee structure, based on the prevailing CSIR NET pattern, is:
