Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must hold a master's degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised university or institution.
  • General and unreserved candidates are generally required to secure at least 55% marks in the qualifying postgraduate examination.
  • Candidates belonging to eligible reserved categories are generally provided a relaxation in the minimum qualifying marks, subject to the applicable rules.
  • Applicants pursuing the final year of their master's programme may be permitted to appear provisionally, provided they complete the qualification within the prescribed period.
  • Subject selection should ordinarily correspond to the candidate's postgraduate subject or a related discipline permitted under UGC NET rules.

Age Limit

  • For Junior Research Fellowship, the upper age limit is generally 30 years, calculated on the cut-off date stated in the detailed information bulletin.
  • Relaxation in the upper age limit is available to reserved categories, women candidates and other eligible applicants under government and UGC rules.
  • There is no upper age limit for Assistant Professor eligibility.
  • Candidates should consult the June 2026 information bulletin for the final cut-off date and category-specific relaxation.

Fees

  • No fee is required to download the final answer key.
  • Examination application fees vary by category and must be paid online during registration.
  • Category-wise fee details for the June 2026 cycle should be verified from the official information bulletin.
  • Any processing charges or applicable taxes may be collected separately by the payment service provider.

Selection Process

  1. Computer-Based Test: Candidates appear for Paper I and Paper II in a single examination session. Both papers contain objective-type, multiple-choice questions.
  2. Final Answer Key and Evaluation: Recorded responses are assessed using the final answers approved after reviewing challenges raised against the provisional key.
  3. Result and Qualification: Candidates are declared qualified for JRF, Assistant Professor eligibility or PhD admission based on their category, aggregate performance and the applicable qualifying criteria.

The final answer key is ordinarily treated as conclusive, and further objections are generally not accepted after its publication. Candidates may calculate an indicative score using the marking scheme, but the official scorecard will remain final.

How to Apply

Candidates who have already appeared for the examination do not need to submit a fresh application. They can download the final answer key by following these steps:
