Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

  • Candidates must possess the post-specific degree, postgraduate qualification, medical qualification or professional certification prescribed by UPSC.
  • Specialist posts are generally expected to require a recognised medical qualification, relevant postgraduate degree or diploma, registration with the appropriate medical authority and prescribed professional experience.
  • Assistant Professor vacancies may require a master's degree, professional degree, postgraduate medical qualification or another relevant academic credential, depending on the subject and department.
  • Applicants for other notified positions must hold the relevant bachelor's degree, master's degree, engineering qualification or equivalent credential from a recognised university or institution.
  • Where experience is mandatory, it must normally have been acquired after obtaining the essential educational qualification.
  • Candidates awaiting final results should not apply unless the notification specifically permits them to do so.

Age Limit

  • The upper age limit will vary according to the post, department and category of the applicant.
  • Age will be calculated as on the closing date mentioned in the detailed UPSC advertisement.
  • Relaxation is generally available to SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, ex-servicemen and other eligible categories under Central Government rules.
  • Applicants must check the post-wise age limit and documentary requirements before submitting the form.

Fees

  • The exact application fee for UPSC Recruitment 2026 will be specified in the detailed notification.
  • Fee exemptions, where applicable, will be available only to categories identified by UPSC.
  • Payment should be made through an authorised online payment option shown on the application portal.
  • Application fees are generally non-refundable after successful payment.

Selection Process

  1. Shortlisting or Recruitment Test: UPSC may shortlist applicants on the basis of qualifications and experience or conduct a recruitment test when a large number of eligible applications are received.
  2. Interview: Shortlisted candidates may be called for an interview to assess subject knowledge, professional competence and suitability for the advertised position. If a recruitment test is held, the final weightage will be specified separately.
  3. Document Verification: Provisionally selected candidates must produce original educational, experience, category, age and registration certificates. Appointment will remain subject to eligibility verification and other departmental requirements.

Meeting the minimum eligibility conditions does not automatically guarantee an interview call. UPSC may adopt enhanced shortlisting criteria where necessary.

How to Apply

  1. Visit the official UPSC website at upsc.gov.in and open the Recruitment or Online Recruitment Application section.
  2. Locate the advertisement for 212 Specialist, Assistant Professor and other vacancies and download the detailed notification.
  3. Check the vacancy number, department, reservation category, qualification, experience and age limit applicable to the desired post.
  4. Complete the online registration process using an active email address and mobile number. Candidates who already have a valid registration should sign in with their existing credentials.
  5. Enter personal, academic and employment details exactly as recorded in the supporting certificates. Upload the required photograph, signature and documents in the prescribed format and file size.
  6. Pay the application fee, if applicable, and review the form carefully before final submission. Incorrect claims regarding qualification, category or experience may lead to rejection.
  7. Submit the application before the closing date and save a copy of the completed form and payment receipt. Applicants should not send printed documents unless specifically directed by UPSC.

Candidates applying for more than one position may have to submit a separate application for each post.
